One of the "sweetest" moments of your wedding will be when you and your sweetheart cut your cake! You'll be slightly intimidated as you approach the beautiful cake on display in front of you, but not enough to make you give a second thought on slicing into all of it's goodness! All your guests will gather around- anxiously awaiting to see if you guys will be "naughty or nice" when feeding each other. Once your bites have been exchanged, they'll be ready to dive into a piece of their own! Here are 5 money-saving tips to keep in mind when buying the most important cake of your life!
1. Cut Out Excess!
I've never heard of anybody complain about extra cake, but why pay for more than you'll actually need? It doesn't make sense, so don't do it! Check with your bakery to see much advanced notice they will need. Set your RSVP deadline accordingly. Wait to order your cake until your final guest count is in! This way you will have an accurate number and won't have to order more cake than what's necessary!
2. Fake Cake!
Did you know that some bakeries will actually decorate a small cake for you to cut, but stack it on top of a "fake cake" that's used for display only? They can make simply decorated sheet cakes for your guests. Those can be held back in the kitchen ready to be portioned and served. Another option would be to just have a small cake to cut, forgo the large display cake, and serve sheet cakes to guests!
3. Ta-Ta, Tiers!
Instead of having a tall, multilayered cake, go with multiple smaller cakes! Not only is this going to bring down your price since your baker won't have to figure for a balancing act, but it will also give you the option to add multiple flavors!
4. Shop Around
While it's always nice to support your local bakery, it might not be conducive with your budget. Grocery store bakeries, such as Publix, make deliciously acceptable cakes, as do many caterers!
5. "Donut" Dismiss Other Options!
There's no rule that says there has to be a cake at your wedding! You can always opt for alternative baked goods such as pies, donuts, cheesecakes or cookies! Take-away treat boxes or bags can also be fun!
